What an ‘Adventure’

Two local residents competed in the Balance Bar 24-Hour Adventure Race Nov. 16 at Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu. Bob Gluchowski, 29, of Los Altos and Johanna Bowles, 22, of Mountain View, joined forces with Donaito Polignone of San Francisco to form Team Four Grapes and Two Melons. The trio came in 14th in the Coed Open Division with time of 26 hours, 33 minutes and 36 seconds. They battled the Pacific Ocean by kayak, climbed the rugged Southern California mountains on foot and fended off fatigue to navigate their way to the finish more than 100 miles away in the non-stop, 24-hour challenge.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
