By Foothill Orchestra concert to benefit needy families
The Foothill Orchestra has scheduled a benefit, “Star Spangled Bonanza,” 7:30 p.m., Dec. 15, at Smithwick Theater on the Foothill College campus.
The Foothill Orchestra will be joined by the Menlo Park Community Chorus, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto Choir, the Foothill College Choir and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
The combined choirs will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The guest speaker is Nicholas P. Jellins, mayor of Menlo Park.
Susan D. Williams, noted pianist, will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 from the movie, “Amadeus.”
Tickets cost $10 and parking is $2 (bring eight quarters and arrive early because of construction). All ticket proceeds above expenses will be donated to families in need.
The benefit is also looking for donations to the Bay Area Little Symphony, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.

League of Women Voters hold soup supper
The League of Women Voters will hold a Local and National Program Planning Discussion and Soup Supper 6 p.m., Dec. 13, at Barbara Wardenberg’s home, 12143 Hilltop Drive, Los Altos Hills. Soup supper is $2 at the door.
Members will select the program agenda for the local and national leagues. They will decide what issues the league will emphasize and what new policy areas to study. For more information, call 941-4846.
Donated toys accepted until Dec. 17
All Horizons Travel’s new offices at 160 Main St. will serve as a drop-off point for the USMC Toys For Tots program. The last day for dropping off toys is Dec. 17.
The office is open 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.
Children may come and shake hands with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, who are guarding the toys until the Marines and Santa can collect them just before Christmas.
Colonel Roy Jones, USMC (Retd.), has been involved with this program for 40 years and is again hoping to keep the record for collecting one of the highest number of toys in the South Bay.
Democrats set Holiday Party
The Peninsula Democratic Coalition has scheduled its annual holiday party 7-10 p.m., Dec. 15.
All Democrats are invited to the traditional party where elected officials, candidates and club members share ideas, plans, good food and holiday celebration. The party is no host with a small donation requested to cover the cost of refreshments served.

Pottery sale at Hillview
A pottery sale, sponsored by the Orchard Valley Ceramic Arts Guild, is scheduled Dec. 15 at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
Approximately 11 clay artists are scheduled to showcase functional and decorative pottery and sculpture, with works ranging in price from $5 to $100.
Featured items include bowls, mugs, platters, raku pottery and pit-fired pots.

‘One Warm Coat’ drive under way
Coldwell Banker is beginning its “One Warm Coat” drive for those without warm clothing for the winter. The annual program collects hundreds of garments for those who have a need. Contributors may drop off coats, sweaters or other warm clothing at 496 First St., 110 First St. or 161 S. San Antonio Road. For more information, call Bob Morton at 947-2250.
