Town Crier Staff Report

he Los Altos High girls soccer team is off to a 2-0 start after beating Mount Pleasant and Silver Creek last week.

The Eagles opened the season with a 3-1 home win over Mount Pleasant Nov. 19, getting goals from Katy Jones, Minh Dang and Alicia Incerpi.

Los Altos followed that game up with a 12-1 rout of visiting Silver Creek the next day. Incerpi scored four goals, while Dang had two goals and four assists. Jones and Stephanie Yung each scored twice.

On Nov. 21, Gunn edged host Mountain View 3-2 in the season opener for both teams.Magdalena Guzinski, Jenna Hilleary and Monica Quinonez scored for the Titans.

Boys soccer

St. Francis dropped a 4-1 decision to host Terra Nova Nov. 19. Kyle Kaveny scored the Lancers’ lone goal in the first half.

Boys basketball

Mountain View opened its season with a 49-42 home loss to Del Mar Saturday.

Kevin Hsu scored 20 points for the Spartans, who led 12-11 after the initial quarter. Del Mar (2-0) took the lead in the second quarter and never relinquished it.

Homestead launched its season with a 57-50 win at Santa Teresa Nov. 21.

The Mustangs were led by Gus Gauntlett (26 points) and Brad Sasaki (20), who made six and four three-pointers, respectively. Homestead made 12 three-pointers in all.

Cross Country

Gunn junior Ruth Graham won the girls Division II state title Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. She ran the 3.1-mile course in 18:08.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
