By Volunteer awards luncheon Friday
The 19th Los Altos-Los Altos Hills Community Volunteer Service Awards luncheon is scheduled for Friday at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.
The public is invited to attend. Beverages will be served at 11:45 a.m., with luncheon and awards to follow at 12:15 p.m.
More than 200 volunteers residing in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills have received these awards through the years. The focus is on recognizing individuals who work countless hours in local organizations, often receiving little or no notice for their efforts.

LAH Historical Society lecture
The Los Altos Hills Historical Society is presenting “A Video and a Visit” celebrating the life of Margery Lindsay. The event is set for 3 p.m., Sunday, at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road.
Federated Woman’s Club meets
Joe Marchi, a retired Canada College professor, will be the guest speaker at the Federated Woman’s Club of Los Altos luncheon meeting Dec. 5 at the University Club in Palo Alto.
Marchi is a enthusiast and expert on the American musical, having collected more than 4,000 albums, CDs and tapes. The collection is now at San Francisco’s Performing Arts Library and Museum.

Pottery sale at Hillview
Those seeking ceramic gifts for Christmas may be interested in a pottery sale sponsored by the Orchard Valley Ceramic Arts Guild Dec. 15 at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
Approximately 11 clay artists are scheduled to showcase functional and decorative pottery and sculpture with works ranging in price from $5-$100. Featured items include bowls, mugs, platters, raku pottery and pit-fired pots.

‘One Warm Coat’ drive under way
Coldwell Banker is beginning its “One Warm Coat” drive for those without warm clothing for the winter ahead. The annual program collects hundreds of garments for those who have a need.
All three Coldwell Banker offices in Los Altos will serve as collection points. Contributors may drop off coats, sweaters or other warm clothing at 496 First St., 110 First St. or 161 S. San Antonio Road.

CSA looking for volunteers
The Community Services Agency of Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills is looking for volunteers to help provide food to low-income families this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season. Volunteers will receive, sort and organize food donations for distribution to families, seniors and the homeless.
Opportunities are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30-4:30 p.m., weekdays, through Dec. 21.

Santa invites kids to breakfast
Santa invites children and their families to have breakfast with him in downtown Los Altos, sponsored by the Village Association. This year, “Breakfast With Santa” will be celebrated Dec. 8 with a breakfast hosted by “Z” Restaurant, 127 First St. There will be only one seating at 8:30 a.m.

Gift-wrapping with a ’special touch’
“Christmas With A Special Touch” is a gift-wrapping center, organized by Kathy Reiman, that will be located at 176 Second St. in Los Altos. The Cornell Law Group will donate the space for the month of December.
The center will be open 1-6 p.m. on weekends from Saturday through Dec. 22.
All proceeds will be donated to “Children of September 11th Victims-Camp Comfort,” safe and healing environments located near New York and Washington for children grieving their loved ones. For more information, logon to www.campcomfort.org.
Carriage rides for the holidays
The Los Altos Village Association will again sponsor half-hour carriage rides around the Downtown Triangle (Main, State and Second streets) 3-9 p.m., Dec. 15; 1-7 p.m., Dec. 16; 3-9 p.m., Dec. 20-22; and 1-7 p.m., Dec. 23.
