By Christ Episcopal Thanksgiving service

Christ Episcopal Church, 1040 Border Road, Los Altos, has scheduled a service 10 a.m., Thursday, to offer prayers of thanksgiving and petition for peace. It offers an appropriate way to celebrate our nation’s freedom and bounty before settling in to the turkey dinner and loving time with families and friends.

Methodist church plans holiday fest

The United Methodist Church in Los Altos has scheduled its annual holiday luncheon and sing-a-long 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 5, at 655 Magdalena Ave. Festivities will include visiting/schmoozing 11-11:30, luncheon 11:30-12:30 and a sing-along 12:30-1 p.m.

Parenting class at First Presbyterian

Parents with children of all ages are invited to a six-week video and discussion course with Dr. Kevin Leman, a parenting expert and author of 21 books. The class is split between the video series and discussion time with Ken Gammons, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View.

The first class is scheduled 6-7:30 p.m., Jan. 12 and runs through Feb. 16.

Classes are held at First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View, 1667 Miramonte Ave.

Cost is $10 per couple for the six-week course. The course includes a workbook and refreshments. Free babysitting is provided.

CHUMS card for victims

CHUMS (Children United Morally and Spiritually) is an interfaith youth group whose goal is to promote the education, understanding and acceptance of each other’s faiths.

Three families representing Islam, Christianity and Judaism have created a card for the holiday season inspiring peace and joy. All proceeds from the sale of the cards will be donated to victims of Sept. 11 and America’s Fund for Afghan children.

The card is available at Linden Tree Children’s Records and Books at 170 State St. in Los Altos or can be ordered from Donna Peterson at 949-5453.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
