The Los Altos City Council was scheduled to name a new mayor Monday night after the Town Crier’s press deadline.

The mayoral position is a one-year term that rotates among the councilmembers.

Councilman Francis La Poll served as mayor pro tem over the past year and was scheduled to be next in line to serve as mayor.

In Los Altos, protocol calls for those council members, who are elected at the same time, to serve as mayor beginning with the top vote-getter.

La Poll is completing his second four-year term.

He was the second top vote -getter behind Louis Becker in the 1999 election.

King Lear had served as mayor over the past year.

He and Councilman John Moss were both re-elected earlier this month to serve four more years on the Los Altos City Council.
