Foothill College Sports Roundup
A day after routing Shasta 45-7, the Foothill College football team learned it has qualified for yet another Kiwanis Silicon Valley Bowl.
The Owls (7-3) will take on College of the Redwoods (8-2) in the bowl game, slated for Dec. 1 at Foothill. The Owls have played in the past four Silicon Valley Bowls, winning the last three.
Foothill goes into the postseason on a two-game win streak. The Owls manhandled visiting Shasta in Saturday’s regular-season finale. They led the non-conference game 28-0 after a quarter and played their backups for most of the second half.
Quarterback Waye Terry completed 11 of 17 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for a score.
Gunn High grad Ken Coleman caught four passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns - one of which went for 80 yards.
“He had a great game,” Owls coach Marshall Sperbeck said.
Los Altos grad Steve Holloway rushed 20 times for 144 yards and a touchdown.
Foothill’s defense held Shasta to -11 yards rushing and 192 yards passing.
Women’s golf
Foothill placed fourth at the NorCal Championships Nov. 13 with a score of 564. Fresno won the team competition with a 532. College of Sequoias edged the Owls for third place by a single stroke.
Men’s soccer
Adriano Soares’ free kick in overtime lifted No. 10 Foothill to a 1-0 road win over No. 2 San Francisco Saturday in the second round of the Northern California playoffs.
The Owls (11-5-6) were slated to face No. 3 CaƱada (16-4-5) Tuesday.
In first-round action Nov. 13, Foothill pulled off a 4-1 upset of No. 7 Consumnes River. Los Altos High grad Rene Martinez got the visiting Owls rolling with a shot coach Vava Marques called “the most beautiful goal of the season.”
At the 43-minute mark of the first half, the freshman drilled a 35-yard shot from the left side of the field that soared over the goalie’s head.
“The keeper never had a chance,” Marques said. “It was unbelievable.”
Women’s soccer
Foothill exited the NorCal playoffs in the first round, falling 3-0 at Sierra Nov. 13. The Owls, who trailed 1-0 at the half, end their season with a 13-5-2 record.
Women’s volleyball
Foothill concluded its season Nov. 14 with a loss at Hartnell, which won 30-27, 27-30, 30-26, 31-29. The Owls finished with a 2-7 record in the Golden Gate Conference and a 9-11 mark overall.
