By 'One Warm Coat' drive begins

Coldwell Banker is beginning its “One Warm Coat” drive for those without warm clothing for the winter ahead. The annual program collects hundreds of garments for those who have a need.

All three Coldwell Banker offices in Los Altos will serve as collection points.

Contributors may drop off coats, sweaters or other warm clothing at 496 First St., 110 First St. or 161 S. San Antonio Road.

Santa invites kids to breakfast

Santa invites children and their families to have breakfast with him in downtown Los Altos, sponsored by the Village Association.

This year, “Breakfast With Santa” will be celebrated Dec. 8 with a breakfast hosted by “Z” Restaurant, 127 First St. There will be only one seating at 8:30 a.m.

Tickets are $20 and are available at: Marion Jackston’s, 165 Main St.; Adventure Toys & Teachers’ Supply, 173 Main St.; Young Villagers, 205 Main St.; Lin’s Toy Cupboard, 237 State St.; and the Los Altos Recreation Department, 97 Hillview Ave.

Build-A-Box looking for help

Art Scott’s Build-A-Box program collects and distributes free Thanksgiving meals to the needy throughout Santa Clara County.

Build-A-Box delivers more than 2,000 meals to needy families.

Each dinner box includes a 18-pound turkey, potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and pumpkin pie.

Scott, a Los Altos resident, has several major sponsors, but this year he is looking for additional contributions and volunteers.

A donation of $22 to Build-A-Box feeds a family of 10; $44 feeds two families of 10; $220 feeds 100 and so on.

Mail your contributions or sign up as a volunteer to Thanksgiving Build-A-Box, c/o Coldwell Banker, 496 First St., Suite 100, Los Altos 94022.

Gift-wrapping with a ’special touch’

“Christmas With A Special Touch” is a gift-wrapping center, organized by Kathy Reiman, that will be located at 176 Second St. in Los Altos.

The Cornell Law Group will donate the space for the month of December. Volunteers who want to make a difference in this special time of our lives will staff the center.

The center will be open 1-6 p.m. on weekends from Dec. 1 through Dec. 22.

All proceeds will be donated to “Children of September 11th Victims-Camp Comfort,” safe and healing environments located near New York and Washington for children grieving their loved ones.

Carriage rides for the holidays

The Los Altos Village Association will again sponsor half-hour carriage rides around the Downtown Triangle (Main, State and Second streets) 3-9 p.m., Dec. 15; 1-7 p.m., Dec. 16; 3-9 p.m., Dec. 20-22; and 1-7 p.m., Dec. 23.

The authentic turn-of-the-century carriages, decked with holly, carry four to six adults and children, and feature convertible tops and heating.

Rates are $60 prepaid with Visa or MasterCard. For reservations, call the Village Association 949-5282.

Teens’ Dear Abbey at LA library

Annie Fox, nationally known Cyberspace “Dear Abbey” for Teens and author of “Can You Relate?” will provide real world advice for teens on guys, girls, growing up and getting along, 4 p.m., Dec. 5, at the Los Altos Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Fox will sign copies of her book and talk with teens. If you have relationship questions, Annie has answers!
