Lokahi Volleyball Club, for girls ages 12-18, has scheduled tryouts for Saturday, and Dec. 1, 2 and 9 in the Mountain View High gym. Cost is $10. Players must attend at least two consecutive tryouts to be considered and register 15 minutes before each tryout. Call for coaches

Blach Junior High is looking for boys basketball coaches for the upcoming season, which runs Dec. 10 to Feb. 15. Coaches are needed to head the grade 7 and 8 teams, plus the C team (for players 5-foot-3 and under). If interested, call Blach athletic director Steve Kane at 969-5063.

Meet Mathias

Bob Mathias, Olympic gold-medalist and Stanford University alum, is set to appear at the Stanford Bookstore noon to 2 p.m., Friday, to sign copies of his new autobiography, “A Twentieth Century Odyssey, The Bob Mathias Story.” Mathias is the youngest person ever to win a gold medal in the Olympic decathlon and the only American to win it twice.
