Three board members stay put in Los Altos, two gain another term in Cupertino
f voting patterns are any indication of the level of satisfaction that residents have with their schools, the Los Altos and the Cupertino Union school districts must be doing more than satisfactory. Incumbents for both districts swept the votes in last week’s election. Only one newcomer joined the board in Cupertino.
Each district had three seats available for governing school board members. According to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, the election results are as follows:
Los Altos School District
Jay A. Thomas (incumbent) was elected with 3,256 votes or 29.1 percent.
Victor M. Reid, III (incumbent) was elected with 3,059 votes or 27.3 percent.
Duane Roberts (incumbent) was elected with 2,848 votes or 25.5 percent.
Bill Cooper had 2,038 votes or 18.2 percent.
Cupertino Union School District
Pearl Cheng was elected with 9,540 votes or 25.4 percent.
Ben Liao was elected with 8,449 votes or 22.5 percent.
Gary McCue was elected with 7,974 votes or 21.3 percent.
George K. Tyson had 6,956 votes or 18.6 percent.
John A. Claras had 4,578 votes or 12.3 percent.
