Rachael Lesley Mudge and Paul John Lester were married Aug. 4 at the Valley Presbyterian Church, Portola Valley. A reception was held at Ladera Oaks, Portola Valley.

The bride is the daughter of John and Mavis Mudge of Los Altos. She graduated from Los Altos High School and earned degrees in mathematics and dance at Scripps College. She is pursuing a master’s degree in mathematics and is employed in Foothill College’s mathematics department.

The groom is the son of Kathleen Harrington and Roy Lester of Bolton, England. He graduated from Loreto High School, Manchester, England, and earned degrees in political science and economics from Bradford University, England. He was a soccer coach at Los Altos High School from 1995-97 and is now a soccer coach at University of California at Santa Cruz.

Schlier, Anderson

Jessica Schlier and Russell Anderson have announced their engagement to be married. No wedding date has been set.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Dorothy and Bryan Schlier of Newton, Conn. She is a graduate of Newton High School and received a bachelor’s degree with honors in chemistry last May from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn. She is employed as a chemist at Whitchall-Robins in Richmond, Va.

The groom-to-be is the son of Elizabeth and Ronald Anderson of Mountain View. He graduated from Mountain View High School and received a bachelor’s degree with honors in history last May from Wesleyan University. He is a law student at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
