By Older Adult Resource Center speaker series

The Older Adult Resource Center of El Camino Hospital has scheduled lectures in November and December as part of its Distinguished Speaker series.

A representative of the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater San Francisco will speak on “Alzheimer’s - Beginning to Cope (ABC),” 7-9 p.m., Nov. 19, in meeting room M of the Park Pavilion.

Gretchen Brosius of Seniors at Home, a social work case management program, is slated to speak on “Understanding Case Management: Helping To Keep Seniors Independent with Dignity,” 7-8 p.m., Dec. 6, in the cafeteria of El Camino Hospital, 2500 Grant Road, Mountain View.

Flu shots offered

The Los Altos Senior Center is offering flu shots 12:30 p.m. today. The shots are free for members. A $5 donation is requested for non-members.

Craft Faire scheduled for Thanksgiving week

The first “Holiday Craft Faire,” cosponsored by the Los Altos Senior Center and the City of Los Altos, will be held at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., noon to 4 p.m., Nov. 23, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 24.

More than 20 vendors will participate.

Included in the sale will be holiday decorations and gift ideas such as wooden puzzles, handmade doll clothes and handmade sweaters.

The Los Altos Senior Center Board of Directors will provide a no- host snack bar.

For the first time in five years, a public elementary school, Gardner Bullis, opened its doors last week in Los Altos Hills. For some, it was, metaphorically speaking, the last stitch removed from the old wound following the closure of the original Bullis-Purissima School in 2003.

For others, including the diehards who formed the successful Bullis Charter School, the sting of the Bullis closure lingers. But our sense is that for most Hills residents not part of the Loyola School coverage area, the opening of Gardner Bullis means the resurrection of a long-sought-after neighborhood school and the community benefits that come with it.
