By The Silicon Valley Association of Realtors will hold its third annual Casino Night, 7-11 p.m., Friday, at Michael's restaurant at Shoreline.

Hosted by the Los Altos/Mountain View District of the Silicon Valley Realtors, all proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

This year’s theme is the 1940s Red Cross Canteen and Casino. Period costumes from the 1940s are optional.

Admission is $60. To register, call Lori Ruiz at 949-6716.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
