Town Crier Staff Report

Los Altos Hills Mayor Toni Casey plans to add a few thousand miles to her Town Hall commute this winter.

The Small Business Administration appointed Casey director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Casey will serve as the principal adviser on intergovernmental efforts designed to enhance support for small business and coordinate interagency task forces that provide a voice for small businesses.

She announced at the Oct. 18 Los Altos Hills City Council meeting that she intends to commute from Washington, D.C., in order to fulfill her term as a council member.

The Los Altos Hills City Council meets twice a month.

“My new career is a voluntary, nonpartisan position.

“It will not interfere with my responsibilities as mayor or council member,” Casey said.

Casey said she intends on keeping Los Altos Hills as her home.

Casey has lived in Los Altos Hills for nearly 25 years.

Casey served on the Los Altos Hill City Council from 1988-92 and 1994 to present.

Her current term expires next November.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
