The Los Altos United Methodist Church has designated Nov. 11 as a day to “Celebrate the Gift,” rejoicing in the gifts we have been blessed with and in God’s gifts of Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Retreat at San Damiano

The Los Altos United Methodist Church retreat will be held Thursday and Friday at San Damiano.

Nestled in the rolling East Bay hills, San Damiano offers the setting of beautiful gardens, serene places for meditation and trails and paths to scenic views of mountains and the valley below.

Cost per person is $95 (single room/bath) or $85 (shared room).

For more information, call Nancy Roslund at 948-1083, ext. 128.

Church seeks school supplies for El Salvador

In February, members of Los Altos United Methodist Church will be going to El Salvador, where they will build a house. Hands-On Missions is collecting school supplies that they can take to the children in the community where they will be working.

For more information, call Donna Davies at 969-3697.

Send items for briefs to Richard Billings at the Los Altos Town Crier, 138 Main St., Los Altos 94022.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
