By ACT deadline Nov. 2

College-bound high school students who want to take the ACT assessment can register in two ways - by mail or online - before the Dec. 8 test date. The registration postmark deadline is Nov. 2, and the late registration postmark deadline is Nov. 15. The test fee is $24, with an additional fee for late registration. Talks for parents and teachers

Mary Sheedy Kurcinka will give a talk titled “Raising your spirited child,” 7-9 p.m., Nov. 8, and Janis Keyeser will talk on “Becoming the parent you want to be,” 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m., Nov. 10. Both events are sponsored by the Los Altos Parent Preschool and will be held at Linden Tree Children’s Records and Books, 170 State St. For more information, call 947-9371.

Foothill College ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Foothill College presents “Alice in Wonderland,” a play for children ages 5 to 12, at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 15-17, and 2 p.m., Nov. 17 and 18, at Smithwick Theater at Foothill College. For more information, call Tyler Risk at 949-7417.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
