Because of an increase in rent with no opportunity to negotiate, Rancho Video and TV Associates closed its doors Monday.

The owner, Mark Zarzycki, will continue to do television and VCR repairs from another location. He will also continue with satellite sales and installation for DIRECTV.

Susan Savett, a Los Altos resident, said she visited Rancho Video the last two years and received some great recommendations on movies. “This will be a loss for the Rancho community,” she said.

Zarzycki plans to sell all the store videos for $9.95 each or three for $21 except the latest issues where there is only one in stock. No DVDs are for sale.

Within a month, Rancho Video will have a Web site where customers can rent DVDs through the mail: www.ranchovideo.com.

“I have been a member of the community for the last four years even though I don’t live here,” Zarzycki said.

“You become good friends with your customers when they ask for information on whether a movie is good. Many come back as friends. … I will miss that interaction with the people of Los Altos.”

Rancho Video was located at 632 Rancho Shopping Center, at the corner of Springer Avenue and Foothill Expressway.
