Costume contests, parades and haunted houses help put local schools in the Halloween spirit. Here’s what some of the local schools have scheduled.

Almond School celebrated on Oct. 26 with a carnival. Students can dress up on Halloween.

Bullis-Purissima School has scheduled a Halloween parade for kindergartners at 8:45 a.m. and first to sixth grades at 1:50 p.m, today.

Loyola School has scheduled a parade for all grades at 3 p.m., today, on the field.

Oak School has scheduled a haunted house 3-5 p.m., today, in the multipurpose room. Cost is 50 cents. There is also a costume parade 1-2 p.m., today.

Santa Rita Elementary celebrated on Oct. 27, with its “Witches Delight” carnival. Students can dress up for Halloween.

Springer School has scheduled a costume parade 1:15 p.m, today, on the playground.

Blach and Egan junior highs are encouraging sstudents and staff to dress in costume.

Montclaire School has scheduled a schoolwide costume parade at 8:45 a.m., today.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
