West Bay Water Polo Club is offering a Winter Swim Camp to improve students’ swimming ability. The camp, for swimmers of all levels in grades 7-12, includes swimming and weightlifting. The camp runs Dec. 3 through Jan. 21 at Los Altos High. Times: swimming 3:30-5 p.m., weekdays; weights 5-5:30 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $200. Walk for firefighters
Avenidas Senior Day Health Center on Thursday will hold a walk-a-thon, with proceeds going to the New York Firefighters 911 Disaster Relief Fund. The walk is 10-11 a.m. at Avenidas, 701 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto. A picnic follows noon to 1 p.m. at Mitchell Park. For more information, call 494-8018.
Get in the game
The Jewish Community Center, 655 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto, is starting up a pair of three-on-three, half-court basketball leagues. Bring your own team or be placed on one. The 35-and-up league runs 4:30-7 p.m., Sundays. The 45-and-up league plays 7-9 p.m., Tuesdays. Both leagues run seven weeks, with two weeks of playoffs, and the champions receive trophies. Kicking for a cause
West Coast Martial Arts Academy will hold a Karate Kick-a-thon at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the academy, 2594 Middlefield Road, Mountain View. Proceeds will go to the families of fallen New York firefighters and police officers. Students are asking for pledges and sponsorship from the community. Kicks will be performed in the air or against a kicking shield. Kicks done with a board break will count double the value. Their goal is 100,000 kicks.
