Marilyn Grewe, also known as Mary Lou or Gammy, died Sept. 29. She was 75. Mrs. Grewe was the daughter of E.J. and Frances Grewe. She was a longtime resident of Los Altos and San Francisco.

She is survived by her siblings, James and Bonnie Young; daughter, Roberta; and grandchildren, Heather, Tony, Maria, Ernest and Douglas.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Thomas, and sister, Patricia.

Mary Elizabeth Curran

Mary Elizabeth Curran, a longtime Los Altos resident, died Oct. 2. A native of Ohio, she was 82. Mrs. Curran was a World War II veteran. She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES. She was also an active, longtime volunteer at Stanford Children’s Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Maurice T. Curran; children, Deborah, Steve, Sue and Chris; and sisters, Sally Rice and Agnes Anderson.

Private family services were held.

John Bruce Schoenfeld

John Bruce Schoenfeld, who ran a podiatry practice in Menlo Park for 45 years, died Oct. 5 after suffering a massive stroke at his Mountain View home. Dr. Schoenfeld had a long history of diabetes. A native of Portland, Ore., he was 77.

Dr. Schoenfeld was the son of a Montgomery Ward’s salesman. He moved to California when he was 3, and lived in Yreka, Chico, Fresno and Alameda.

After graduating from Alameda High School in 1940, he attended San Francisco State College. In 1943 he enlisted in the Navy, where he served in a Seabees Construction battalion in the South Pacific during World War II.

He later returned to the Bay Area, where he obtained a doctorate in podiatric medicine from the San Francisco School of Podiatry. He ran his practice in Menlo Park until his retirement in 1994.

Entranced as a child by stories of Tarzan and the African continent, he visited Africa several times and described it as his favorite place in the world.

Dr. Schoenfeld was active in the Boy Scouts of America. All three of his sons became Eagle Scouts. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Menlo Park.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Merry; sons, John, James and Richard; sister, Jean of Los Altos; and two grandchildren.

May Louise Pritchard

May Louise Pritchard died Oct. 11. A native of Kansas, she was 96.

Mrs. Pritchard was the daughter of John F. Hobbs and Leah A. Hobbs. She is survived by her son, Daniel A. Pritchard, and two granddaughters.

Judith Gaynia Hughes

Judith Gaynia Hughes died Oct. 14 at her Los Altos home. A native of San Francisco, she was 66.

Mrs. Hughes was a teacher with the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. She was an active member of the Los Altos United Methodist Church Choir.

She is survived by her children, Jason, Leslie and David Hughes.

Doris Marie Vojvoda

Doris Marie Vojvoda died Oct. 14. A native of Mountain View, she was 69.

Mrs. Vojvoda moved to Los Altos in the early 1950s. She was a past member of the St. Simon Catholic Church Women’s Club. She volunteered many hours at rummage and bake sales. In 1983 she joined Sunken Gardens Women’s Golf Club. She served as club captain and committee member of the short golf club for 15 years.

She organized an annual golf excursion to Nevada for 12 years. She also served as traveling coordinator for the two-time World Champion National Collegiate Baseball team, Fujitsu Expos of Los Altos. She was known to the players as “Mrs. Boss.”

Mrs. Vojvoda is survived by her husband, Ivan; children, Ivan J. II of Los Altos, Joe and his wife Misty, Robert, and Lynette Sonnichsen and her husband Dan; and grandchildren, Nikki, Cory, Kyle and Andrew.

Janet Riddle Norman

Janet Riddle Norman died in Mountain View following a five-year illness. She was 92.

Mrs. Norman was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Straube of Los Altos Hills; grandchildren, Christopher Straube, Kimberly Walsh and Alison Heutter; and five great-grandchildren.

Mary H. Keirstead, a longtime Los Altos resident, died Oct. 5. She received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and science from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kan.

She worked as a programmer at NEAR Inc. in Mountain View, until her retirement in 1985.
