Foothill College Sports Roundup

Freshman halfback Steven Holloway made the most of his first start of the season, playing a key role in the Foothill College football team’s 35-7 win at Chabot last Saturday.

The Los Altos High graduate rushed 23 times for 211 yards and a touchdown and also caught two passes for 22 yards. Holloway, whose longest run went for 57 yards, scored from 12 yards out.

“He’s improved each week and we decided to give him a shot,” Foothill coach Marshall Sperbeck said of Holloway, who came off the bench the prior week to run for 106 yards. “He had a nice game.”

Holloway led a rushing attack that accounted for 304 of the Owls’ 439 offensive yards.

Foothill quarterback Waye Terry completed 9 of his 18 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. Gunn grad Kenny Coleman, a sophomore receiver, caught the touchdown pass on an 8-yard play.

Defensively, the Owls held Chabot to 245 yards and didn’t allow a score until the fourth quarter.

Linebacker Joey Barnes led the defense with 12 tackles, an interception and a fumble return for a touchdown. He also punted three teams, averaging 45 yards per kick.

The game marked the start of the NCFA Golden Gate Division season for both teams and pushed Foothill’s overall record to 4-2.

“The team’s coming along well and making improvements,” Sperbeck said.

The Owls host Cabrillo (0-1, 2-4) at 7 p.m., Saturday.

Foothill topped host City College of San Francisco 31-33, 30-20, 30-11, 30-26 last Friday in a division match.

Foothill plays at Chabot at 6:30 p.m., today.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
