Violinist Daniel Heifetz will open the Community School of Music and Arts 2001-02 Stanford Lively Arts Informance Series 6-7 p.m., Monday, in Brunello Hall, CSMA, 253 Martens Ave., Mountain View.

The free series offers the public the opportunity to meet outstanding world-class artists, to hear musical excerpts, and to learn about their careers and ideas on music in an informal, up-close setting.

Heifetz raised in Southern California, is the winner of the esteemed International Tchaikovsky Competition. He has earned accolades at home and abroad.

“We are delighted to be able to continue our partnership with Stanford Lively Arts,” said CSMA music school director Dr. Nicholas Isaacs. “The collaboration is a wonderful way to bring great artists to the community so that young students through seniors can enjoy the personalities and music of these special guests.”

CSMA, a non-profit center for arts education founded in 1968, annually serves more than 20,000 people through lessons, classes, camp, arts-in-the schools programs, concerts, exhibits, community outreach events and a financial aid program.

CSMA is currently in the planning stages of building a permanent home for the school at San Antonio Circle in Mountain View.

Limited seating for the Stanford Lively Arts Informance Series at CSMA is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event only.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
