The Los Altos Hills County Fire District has two commissioners whose terms expire on January 1. To apply for the seats, send a letter to Board of Commissioners, P.O. Box 1766, Los Altos 94023-1766. The deadline for receipt of letter is Nov. 12. For more information, call 949-1044.

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
