By Last month, Assemblyman Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) announced his first annual "There Oughta Be a Law" contest. Entries - ideas for new legislation - were accepted beginning Sept. 14. Due to requests from the public, the deadline has been extended to Saturday.

“Some of the best ideas I hear for new legislation come directly from the folks who live and work in the 21st Assembly District,” said Simitian. Simitian will declare at least one contest winner and will plan to introduce the legislative proposal as a bill in the 2002 session.

To participate in the contest, call Simitian’s district office at 688-6330.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
