That’s the ticket

The San Jose Earthquakes are offering students in grades K-8 a chance to display their artistic flair on the Major League Soccer team’s 2002 season tickets. Participants are encouraged to draw a picture of what soccer and/or the Earthquakes means to them. Judging will be based on creativity, use of color and appropriateness of theme. The contest runs through Nov. 10. Entry forms may be obtained from the Earthquakes Soccer Shop, 3550 Stevens Creek Blvd., San Jose, or from a Washington Mutual branch. The 15 winners will have their drawings replicated on the tickets, receive a $100 Washington Mutual savings account and four tickets to the Quakes’ home opener. The school submitting the most entries gets an assembly with a Quakes player and team mascot.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
