The Los Altos High Pumpkin Patch opens Friday in the parking lot of the school, 201 Almond Ave. Proceeds go toward the Eagles’ athletic programs. Pumpkin patch hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., through Oct. 31.
Kicking for a cause
West Coast Martial Arts Academy will hold a Karate Kick-a-thon starting at 11 a.m., Oct. 27, at the academy, 2594 Middlefield Road, Mountain View. Proceeds will go to the families of New York firefighters and police officers. Students will be asking for pledges and sponsorship from neighbors, friends and local businesses. Kicks will be performed in the air or against a kicking shield. Kicks done with a board break will count double the value.Their goal is 100,000 kicks.
Victory celebration
After all of the schedule rearranging forced by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the San Jose CyberRays have moved the date of their Fan Appreciation Day to Nov. 4 at Spartan Stadium. In addition to autographs and musical entertainment, there will be CyberRays merchandise on sale including surplus game jerseys. The CyberRays, which have St. Francis High graduate Gina Oceguera on their roster and former Pinewood School athletic director Christie Eustice in their front office, recently won the Women’s United Soccer Association’s inaugural championship. Sports grants
The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame’s 2002 Youth Fund grant applications are now available. Non-profit youth organizations and schools may apply for the grants, which provide needed sports equipment.
