Astronomer Dr. Chris Chyba of the SETI Institute and Stanford University has scheduled an illustrated non-technical lecture, “Life in the Universe: Is It Just Around the Corner?” 7 p.m., tonight, at the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College, Los Altos Hills. No science background is required, and the lecture is appropriate for students 13 and older. Admission is free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. CUSD candidates to share visions
The League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale is co-sponsoring a candidates forum featuring candidates for the Cupertino Union School District Board of Trustees. The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m., Oct. 24, at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Ave.
The five candidates running for the Nov. 6 election are George Tyson, Pearl Cheng, John Claras, Ben Liao and Gary McCue.
The school district includes Montclaire School in Los Altos.
The forum is also sponsored by the Cupertino-Fremont Council PTA and the American Association of University Women.
Montclaire School supports NYC victims
Students at Montclaire School in Los Altos have raised $8,218.14 , which will be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Students have also organized a letter writing campaign to New York Firefighters. Students will also be making 1,000 paper cranes to honor those who lost their lives. They are using special origami paper to make the cranes and may be soliciting donations for more paper. The cranes will be donated to the New York Red Cross as a symbol of good luck.
