Joseph Marion Cobo died Sept. 23 at his Mountain View home. A native of California, he was 70.
Mr. Cobo was owner of Schroeder Valve Repair.
Mr. Cobo is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Jeffrey and Shiela Cobo and Lance Alfred; siblings, Rose Marcell and Peter Cobo.
Philip Jordan Davis
Philip Jordan Davis died Sept. 10 at his Los Altos Hills home. A native of Sacramento, he was 69.
Retired since 1992, Mr. Davis’ business career spanned 40 years. Most recently he served as vice president, international marketing, for Worlds of Wonder Inc., and held previous marketing positions at Verbatim, International Video Corp., Memorex and Varian. He began his career as a ship’s purser for American President Lines in the 1950s. Philip held a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Lucas Davis, and his parents, John C. and Freda Davis. He is survived by his sons, Jordan, Jeffrey and Joel; grandchildren Allison, Bradley, Fischer, and Jack; and brother, John C. Davis Jr.
Nguyen-ton-Hoan
Nguyen-ton-Hoan, leader of the Dai Viet Party, a worldwide political organization of Vietnamese Nationalists, died Sept. 19. A native of South Vietnam, he was 84.
Dr. Nguyen-ton-Hoan was trained as a physician at the university of Hanoi but spent most of his life in politics. He became a distinguished and respected leader of the Vietnamese community. His political career and achievements spanned 60 years. Dr. Nguyen-ton-Hoan started his political work as the leader of the Vietnamese resistance student movement against the French occupation.
When the Communists took over North Vietnam in 1945, he was forced to flee to China. Later, under the Emperor Bao Dai of Vietnam, he became minister of youth and sports. In 1964, he became vice premier of South Vietnam until he was forced into exile to France. In 1965, because of a misunderstanding with the French president Charles De Gaulle, he was forced to leave France and settle in the United States. He continued his political activities in the United States. Never wavering, he continued to pursue his commitment to a free and democratic Vietnam, working with communities of Vietnamese throughout the world.
Dr. Nguyen-ton-Hoan is survived by his wife of 57 years; children, Dr. Chau Nyguyn and his wife Phuong, Oanh Hanley and her husband Paul, Anh Nguyen and his wife Sabine Nguyen-Hort, Doris Nguyen and her husband Andrew Mason; and six grandchildren, Lien and Katherine Gray, Truc-Tien Nguyen, Michael and Christopher Nguyen-Mason and Keenan Hanley.
Florence Herrington
Florence Herrington, a longtime Los Altos resident, died Sept. 6. A native of New Jersey, she was 87.
She worked with the Palo Alto and Los Altos School Districts as a devoted aide and crossing guard for more than 17 years.
Mrs. Herrington and her husband settled in Los Altos in 1952 and built their own home, where she resided until her death.
She was the widow of Bruce Herrington.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Jensen; nieces, Lora and Paula Gallegas, Lana Ticoulet; nephew, Terry Gallegas; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sept. 8.
Charlotte Thompson Roth
Charlotte Thompson Roth died Sept. 23. A native of Kansas, she was 95.
Mrs. Roth was a graduate of the University of Kansas. She worked as a journalism teacher in Oklahoma and Virginia. She later taught English in Salt Lake City schools. She was a member of the PEO sisterhood and was active in the Presbyterian church. She was an elder, an officer in the national Presbyterian women’s association and co-editor of a statewide church newsletter.
Mrs. Roth is survived by her son, Walton Thompson Roth of Los Altos Hills, daughter, Julia Anna Roth; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. A. Walton Roth.
Eugene L. McMaster
Eugene L. McMaster died Sept. 23. A native of California, he was 95.
Mr. McMaster was a chemist with Kaiser Permanente Cement.
He was the widower of Helen Robinson McMaster.
He is survived by his children, Norma McKee and Glen McMaster; grandchildren, Chris McKee, Jeanine Carson, Cheryl Woltz and Carol, Davis and Linda McMaster; and four great-grandchildren.
Jeannette Bergman
Jeannette Bergman died Sept. 24. A native of California, she was 62.
Ms. Bergman was a receptionist at Measurez.
She was predeceased by her brother, Gary Biedma.
She is survived by her sister, Diane Higgs; brother-in-law, Wayne Matasci of Mountain View; and niece, Janete Petersen.
Charles Vetter
Charles Vetter died Sept. 26 in Mountain View. A native of New York, he was 91.
Mr. Vetter was a retired pilot for American Airlines. He was a volunteer at Mountain View High School.
Mr. Vetter was the widower of Christine Vetter.
He is survived by his cousin, Dr. Cornelius Tyson Jr.

Jack Gregory, a longtime Los Altos Hills and Mountain View resident, died Oct. 2. A native of Essex, England, he would have celebrated his 82nd birthday next month.
Mr. Gregory is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances; daughter, Jackie; his niece, Robin; and grandsons, Nick and Craig.
