By Eagle and Spartan theaters to be completed in early 2002

Town Crier Staff Report

Not only will the Los Altos and Mountain View High schools have new performing arts centers, but the theaters will have new names.

The Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District recently named the theaters, currently under construction.

Eagle Theater and Spartan Theater are scheduled to open in early 2002. Identical in size and scope, the new theaters will each seat 350 people, have a stage large enough for a 95 piece orchestra and be state-of-the-art in terms of acoustics and equipment.

The theaters are being built with funds approved in a 1995 bond measure.

Equipment such as curtains, lighting, sound systems, video projectors and special acoustic effects are being paid for through the current fund-raising efforts by the Los Altos Cultural Association. To date, a total of $200,000 has been raised. A committee is researching the possibility of the facilities being available for use by the community when they are not being used by the schools and showing movies.

To help, send donations to: High School Performing Arts Facilities Fund, 171 Main St., # 242, Los Altos 94022.
