The Los Altos High girls water polo team wrapped up the first half of its SCVAL El Camino Division season with a pair of wins last week.
The Eagles improved to 5-2 in the division with road victories over rival Mountain View and Lynbrook.
Los Altos beat Mountain View 6-3 on Oct. 2 behind three goals from Tricia Clark. On Thursday the Eagles pounded Lynbrook 13-4, getting six goals from Rita Lonhart and four from Anne Fish.
In other girls water polo action, Gunn fell to Saratoga 12-4 in a SCVAL De Anza Division game played Oct. 3.
Saratoga jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Titans answered as Kai Lai drilled home a penalty shot and Shelly-Barnea Smith scored a counterattack goal. With the game tied at 3, Saratoga scored four unanswered goals in the third.
Boys water polo
Mountain View hammered host Homestead 22-10 in a SCVAL El Camino Division match held Oct. 2. The Spartans (2-0 division) led 10-5 at the half.
In SCVAL De Anza Division play on Oct. 3, Los Altos beat Palo Alto 9-6 to take over first place. The Eagles (4-0, 11-3) were led by Andrew Wiener, who scored five goals.
In a key West Catholic Athletic League match played Thursday Bellarmine beat host St. Francis 10-4. Michael Castello and David Welch scored two goals each for the Lancers (1-1, 8-4).
Cross country
Mountain View’s Chris Blood finished 12th in the Sophomore Boys Division of the Artichoke Invitational in Half Moon Bay Saturday with a time of 13:21.
The Los Altos boys took 20th out of 36 schools competing in the Small Schools Division of Saturday’s Clovis Invitational in Fresno. The Eagles’ top finisher was Ramsey Ackad, who ran a 16:55 for 22nd.
On the girls’ side, Los Altos’ top runner was Laura Perry, who ran a 22:28 for 135th out of 224 total runners.
