Westwind Barn in Los Altos Hills has scheduled its 9th annual Halloween Horse Show, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 21. Young riders and their mounts can race in games like the Apple Bob Relay, the Gobble-And-Go Race and Musical Pumpkins.
The show will also feature the hair-raising Phantom Gambler Stakes, where the rider who clears the highest and spookiest jumps earns the most points.
Pet dogs can compete in the Horse-and-Hound class.
A horse/rider costume class is the centerpiece of the day, with awards to the best dressed, most original and funniest rider, horse and dog. Another popular event is the “handy horse, handy rider” trail competition, where each horse/rider team negotiates a course of spooky challenges. The boldest and most accurate team wins - adult riders are encouraged to try their luck.
Other classes include maiden and novice equitation, novice and open jumpers and other traditional competitions. Jumps range in height from 18 inches to three feet.
The show benefits the Pacific Ridge Pony Club, a Los Altos Hills-based non-profit club for young local riders ages 6 to 21. Westwind Barn is located on Altamont Road between Moody and Page Mill roads. Classes range in price from $4 to $10. Refreshments are available.
