By Jocco's, Los Altos Bar and Grill help out with separate events
Town Crier Staff Report
Several San Francisco Giants players were eating at Jocco’s restaurant in Los Altos during the week all baseball games were suspended following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. A few diners starting talking about the attacks. In a short time, the entire restaurant was yelling “USA, USA, USA.”
Jamie Carpenter, owner of Jocco’s, was inspired to do something for the victims in New York City. “I thought of a fancy dinner, but that isn’t what this is about. I wanted something for everyone,” Carpenter said. “As a group, I felt we could make a difference, so I contacted the (David and Lucile) Packard Foundation for help.”
With the aid of the Los Altos Community Foundation, a “Los Altos Cares” fund-raising dinner has been organized. The event will be held in Shoup Park at the close of the Celebrate Los Altos Fall Festival, 4-7 p.m., Sunday. There will be barbecue from Jocco’s, beer, sodas and entertainment by Tami Mulcahy and other local singers.
Tickets, which are tax-deductible, are available at Jocco’s, 236 Central Plaza, and Ay Ay Ay, Second and State streets.
Cost is $50 for adults, $10 for children. Checks should be made out to Los Altos Community Foundation.
The Packard Foundation will match all funds up to $20,000. Proceeds will go to the September 11th Fund. For more information on the fund, logon to www.septemberllfund.org.
In another act of patriotism, Loren Masters, owner of Los Altos Bar and Grill, is hosting a “Wear Your Red, White and Blue Night” Thursday for the community to come and show their support dressed in those colors.
