Three local police departments canvassed a Los Altos neighborhood during last week’s thundershowers to look for a homeless man suspected of a string of recent car burglaries in Los Altos, Mountain View and Palo Alto.
The Mountain View K-9 unit found the man at 11 p.m., Sept. 24, near El Camino Real and San Antonio Road. Los Altos police arrested him on charges of parole violation and possession of narcotics, drug paraphernalia, stolen property and burglary tools.
They arrested his companion, a homeless woman, on similar charges.
Los Altos Police Sgt. Tom Connelly said police saw the couple in a parked car behind a closed business near El Camino Real and a residential area where burglars had targeted unlocked cars three days earlier.
The man ran when police approached the car, he said.
The woman remained in the car.
Police found methamphetamines in the car and items they believe were stolen from cars in Mountain View, such as palm pilots, a radio and checkbooks.
Police did have a total value for the stolen goods.
Connelly said last week police were investigating whether any of the stolen property was from Los Altos.
