The 10th annual Celebrate Los Altos Fall Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, in the Plaza South parking lot between First and Third streets.

“We have some great chefs with demonstrations of how they cook food in their restaurants,” said Julie Rose, executive director of the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and festival coordinator. “The entertainment slate is exceptionally strong this year, with rock and roll, country western and big band sounds you can dance to.”

Children’s Alley is always a big attraction for the young people. The rock climbing wall returns, along with skill games and the children’s train. The annual scarecrow coloring contest is open to all children. Local schools benefit from the proceeds.

The festival will include more than 160 vendors featuring crafts, jewelry, clothes and beer.

Armadillo Willy’s will sell tri-tip sandwiches; Chef Chu’s will feature Chinese chicken salad.

“What sets this festival apart from other festivals is the focus on the entire family,” said Lee Lynch, organizer for festival volunteers.

Los Altos resident Bob Mabe, who organized the classic car show part of the festival, expects more than 100 automobiles during the two-day show. Many cars predate the model year 1969.

The Main Stage entertainment schedule starts with the Los Altos Big Band 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, followed by Westerley’s at 12:30 p.m. and Sweet Relief rock and roll at 3 p.m.

On Sunday the entertainment starts at 11 a.m. with Moon Glow and swing songs, followed by Felonius Smith with acoustic blues. Big Fun rock and roll follows, 3-5 p.m.

The Chef’s Galley offers cooking demonstrations by local chefs. Saturday’s lineup includes Juan Barajas of Los Altos Bar & Grill at 10:30 a.m. Sunday’s program features Gary Roth of Los Altos Golf and Country Club followed by Noah Cooper of Z restaurant at 2 p.m., and Jamie Carpenter of Jocco’s restaurant at 3:30 p.m.

The fall festival is a fund-raiser for the Chamber of Commerce.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
