MVHS band says thanks
The award-winning Mountain View High School Spartan Marching Band and color guard has scheduled a preview performance of its field show, “The Mask of Zorro,” 4 p.m., Saturday, at the MVHS outdoor stadium, 3535 Truman Ave. This event is presented as a “thank you” to the community for its support and marks the beginning of the band’s new season.
Learning disability symposium
The Kitty Petty Attention Deficit Disorders and Learning Differences Institute has scheduled its annual symposium, “Choices, changes & challenges: Improving work, home and school interpersonal relationships,” 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 13, at the Foothill Christian Center, 2420 N. Genealogy research offered by adult school
The Los Altos-Mountain View Adult School will offer a beginners class in researching family history and genealogy 9-11:30 a.m., Oct. 19, at the Community Center on Hillview Avenue. The class is designed for those starting to trace their family heritage and offers help in organizing family material and using computer and Internet sources.
Intermediate classes, designed for those who have basic research skills and wish to continue their projects, are scheduled 12:30-3 p.m., Oct. 17. For details, call 940-1333.

Mtn. View-Whisman District actions
The Mountain View-Whisman School District announced that Daniel Gomez from Bubb School was awarded the Ann Lewis Scholarship by the Community School of Music and Arts.
The district approved the concept of the underground water reservoir at Graham Middle School and authorized the staff to work with the city staff on the implementation.
The board approved a salary increase for the superintendent equal to the other employee groups: five percent retroactive to July 1, 1999, and 10 percent retroactive to Nov. 1, 2000.
