A suspected bank robber dropped his loot as he made his getaway from a Los Altos bank last week.

Los Altos Police said the alleged robber handed a note to a teller last Saturday morning at the Wells Fargo Bank in the Village Court Shopping Center on El Camino Real demanding cash. During his escape, he dropped the bundle of cash in the parking lot, according to a bystander who called to report the unusual incident to police.

The K-9 unit tracked the suspect from the bank to the 900 block of San Antonio Road.

Police said the suspect was an African-American man in his 40s and about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray baseball cap, a gray jacket, black pants and glasses.

Police said they believe he is responsible for two other local bank robberies, one in Palo Alto and the other in Mountain View. Anyone with information should call the police at 948-8223.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
