Los Altos Police reported a higher number of calls from residents concerned about possible “suspicious circumstances” since the terrorist attacks in New York and Washing, D.C., Sept. 11.

Police said people are scared; there seems to be a heightened sense of awareness.

They reported receiving more calls for things people don’t normally report.

Police said residents have called them to investigate things such as a “suspicious bag” in a school lunchroom, which turned out to be someone’s lunch.

Police reported one hate crime against a Los Altos doctor of Pakistani descent Sept. 12. An anonymous caller left a threatening message on her answering machine, police said.
