Lee C. “Cloyd” Hendrix died Sept. 5 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. A native of Mississippi, he was 94.

Mr. Hendrix began working when he was in the eighth grade to help support his family. He started his career with W.T. Grant Department Store as a stock clerk and soon worked his way up to manager. He was assigned to various stores throughout the south during his tenure with the Grant Company. In the late 1940s, he declined a promotion to Atlanta, Ga., to allow the family to remain in California. At that time, he opened a hardware store in Los Altos.

Family members said his store remained successful due to his industrious nature and willingness to work long hours. Mr. Hendrix retired from the store in 1975.

He was a member of the Los Altos Methodist Church and was a Mason in his early years.

Mr. Hendrix was the widower of Debet Adams Hendrix. He is survived by his children, Patricia Lynne Horne and her husband Stephen, and Thomas Carlton Hendrix and his wife Judith; and grandchildren, Delynn and Todd Ramsay Parker.
