Gold Star Gymnastics last month opened its meet season by soundly beating its competition, outscoring all of the other teams across both compulsory levels and age divisions.
For Level 5 (age 10-and-over division), Asia Casino took first all-around with first-place finishes on the vault and floor exercise at the Aug. 12 meet. Casino earned a 9.2 for floor.
Lauren Jow claimed second all-around, taking second on bars. Sarah Howell of Los Altos Hills earned fourth place all-around, capturing first on bars.
Andi and Ali Bo grabbed the eighth and ninth place all-around spots, respectively, with Andi earning second on floor. Diane Rodden completed the sweep on floor, taking third.
In the 7-9 age division, Noelle Schulenburg took third all-around, tying for first on both the uneven bars and on floor.
Gold Star’s Level 4s attended their first meet on Aug. 15 and every gymnast scored more than 30.00 on all-around.
Gold Star’s strongest event was vault, where Chelsea Ng of Los Altos took first with a 9.0, Danielle Sepanek of Los Altos finished fourth and Jessica Pennell took fifth.
The Level 5 gymnasts who attended this meet also proved unbeatable on vault.
Anita Crumlin finished first with a 9.1, Brittany Skinner took second, Breanna Adams grabbed third and Kasey Wyatt earned fourth.
Brittany Skinner also took first on floor, while Breanna Adams grabbed second on bars.
The biggest meet of the season was held Aug. 18 in Sacramento at the Judges Cup.
Gold Star placed seventh out of 45 clubs from across Northern California.
In the 11-and-over division, Jow took third all-around, Casino claimed fourth and Howell earned sixth. Howell tied for first on bars. Andi and Ali Bo rounded out the team with ninth and 11th place all-around finishes, respectively.
In the 9-10 age division, Schulenburg took seventh all-around, Michelle Ho of Los Altos came in 13th and Alessia Dorin finished in 17th.
