By Sports injury coverage

The Spinal and Sports Care Center, a chiropractic-medical network in Mountain View, is offering professional sports injury coverage for local sporting events. Trained chiropractors can provide pre-participation examinations, injury evaluation and care, first aid, CPR, and taping services similar to those provided by an athletic trainer. They can also provide thorough orthopedic diagnostic and rehabilitation services and chiropractic adjustments. Services are offered at low or no cost for local athletic groups. Don’t miss the boat

Flotilla 43, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, is offering a boating skills and seamanship class, which includes lessons in boat handling, safety and legal requirements, aids to navigation, weather, trailering, knots and line handling, engines and navigation rules. The 13-session class starts Sept. 5 and will meet 7-9 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays at the Mountain View Senior Center, 266 Escuela St. Free instruction; $40 fee for textbook and materials. Croquet classes

The Los Altos Hills Recreation Department is continuing its free weekly instruction in golf croquet at Los Altos Hills Little League Field 2. Pilates classes

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
