Los Altos Police arrested three homeless adults from San Jose Friday evening for allegedly trying to shoplift $1,100 worth of items from Albertson’s food store at 2175 Grant Road.
Sgt. Tom Connelly said two men, ages 30 and 32, and one woman, 29, entered the grocery store at around 7 p.m. and began going up and down the store’s aisles, loading a shopping cart, mostly with “expensive liquors” and some toiletries.
Their odd behavior alerted at least one store employee, who kept watch on the trio, Connelly said.
“It was pretty obvious what they were doing,” Connelly said.
After the cart was full, the three walked straight out the door without paying for the merchandise.
When employees followed them to the parking lot, the three suspects left the stolen property behind. The woman and the 32-year-old man fled in a car. The other man escaped on foot.
Police stopped the man and woman a couple of miles from the store, and caught the 30-year-old at a Chevron gas station near Albertson’s.
Police charged them with second degree burglary and criminal conspiracy. Both charges are felonies.
