By History Museum volunteer open house
The Los Altos History Museum is holding a volunteer open house for all prospective and current volunteers 5-7 p.m., Sept. 10, at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.
Current volunteers will be recognized while new visitors can learn about new volunteer opportunities. The event will also feature prize drawings and refreshments.

WBO gala in Los Altos
West Bay Opera’s annual fall gala, “A Night at the Opera,” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Sept. 16, at the Los Altos History Museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.
The fund-raiser will include dinner in the museum’s garden, silent and live auctions, and entertainment by West Bay Opera stars.

Art docents need volunteers
Los Altos Art Docents are seeking volunteers for Los Altos School District programs for grades K-8, including lessons in art appreciation, clay, painting and graphic design.

Federated Woman’s Club gets ’sizzling’
The Sizzling Seniors are scheduled to perform at the monthly meeting of the Federated Woman’s Club of Los Altos, 11 a.m., Sept. 5, at Michael’s at Shoreline restaurant in Mountain View.
The group is part of the Santa Clara Adult Education program aerobic classes. The business meeting begins at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and the program at 12:15 p.m. For more information, call 948-3553.
Westwind Barn annual ‘Hoedown’
Westwind Barn’s annual “Hoedown” celebration is scheduled 5-11 p.m., Sept. 8, at the barn, 27210 Altamont Road, Los Altos Hills, adjacent to Byrne Preserve.
The event features horseback riding performances, a barbecue dinner, silent auction, live country music and dancing.
The silent auction and raffle benefit the 4-H program for teaching disabled children to ride, as well as Westwind Barn preservation efforts.

Friends hold used book sale
The Friends of the Los Altos Library will hold their fall used book sale Sept. 7-9 at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
The Friday sale is open 7-9 p.m. for members only. Family memberships are available at the main library for $5. The sale is open to the public 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 8, and noon to 3 p.m., Sept. 9. On Sunday, books are sold by the bag. Bags are available at the door for $3 each and there is no limit to the number of bags purchased.
This sale includes books, CDs, video and audio tapes, records, puzzles and computer software.
Proceeds from the sale go to the library. Cash must be used for all purchases.
