Los Altos residents Brent Forsythe, Matt and Tami Richardson and Deborah Kilpatrick will compete in the Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series Sunday at Folsom Lake in Sacramento. The event starts at 7:30 a.m., with teams of three competing in trail running (5-8 miles), kayaking (1-2 miles) and mountain biking (10-15 miles) in a measure of endurance and teamwork. In addition, eight to 10 “special tests” will be added to further challenge the competitors. For the first time, the series includes races for children 10 and under. Croquet classes

The Los Altos Hills Recreation Department is continuing its free weekly instruction of golf croquet at the Los Altos Hills Little League Field 2. Instruction is available for all levels, beginners to advanced. The group meets 10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays. For more information, call 493-3322 or send an e-mail to JCroquet@aol.com.

Soccer players wanted

A Mountain View-Los Altos CYSA Class 3 under-11 boys soccer team is holding tryouts for the fall season 5-7 p.m., Aug. 22. Players must be be born after July 31, 1990. For directions and more information, call Bill Vinnicombe at 967-5376

Volleyball signups

The United States Youth Volleyball League is registering players through today for an eight-week program that begins Sept. 11 at Houge Park in San Jose. The USYVL is an instructional league that operates in a coed format for boys and girls 8-14, offering every player a chance to learn and play volleyball in a safe, supervised, low-pressure environment.
