n a span of four days, Adam Sollers won two major junior golf tournaments in July.
The Los Altos Hills resident captured the Big I Junior Classic state final at De Laveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz and the Roger Maltby High School Invitational at San Jose Country Club.
“I was just playing well the whole week,” said Sollers, a 2001 graduate of St. Francis High. “I kept playing well through both of the tournaments.”
Sollers shot 142 at the Big I, held July 13-14, shooting 1-under-par 71 both days to qualify for the Big I national tournament in Michigan. Sollers won’t be able to compete, though, because he and twin brother Brett will be starting school at the University of Arizona.
Adam Sollers followed up the Big I with an even-par 70 at the Roger Maltby tournament, which he won by three strokes.
Jensen wins Jr. Masters
Los Altos resident Chris Jensen, 13, won his age group at the Charlie Culver Junior Masters tournament July 27 at Salinas Golf & Country Club.
Jensen, competing in the Boys 12-13 division, finished with a two-day total of 149.
Jensen’s first day score of 1-over-par 73 was his personal best and led the field by two strokes. He maintained this lead the next day to win the title.
Prior to the Junior Masters, Jensen played in the Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego.
“The competition was tough,” Jensen said of the Junior World, “but I know my game is right there with the best and I plan to get back there next year.”
In May, Jensen got his first hole in one at the Big I Qualifier at De Laveaga, and in June he captured the Jim Culligan Memorial Jr. Tournament at Crystal Springs.
As the summer wraps up, Jensen and his older brother Michael will participate in a national AJGA junior tournament in Denver. Michael, a sophomore at St. Francis, will follow that up with a tournament in New York.
