By Town Crier Staff Report
The 12th annual Red Barn Festival, titled “A Day On The Farm,” is scheduled for Saturday at the Stanford Equestrian Center, located on Campus Drive at Stanford University.
The daylong event is open to the community and children of all ages. This year’s program will feature a variety of horse breeds and riding demonstrations, exhibits, a petting zoo and a live auction. During the evening the festival hosts a buffet barbecue dinner, Western dancing and the live auction of donated items.
Featured in the riding demonstrations will be many different breeds of horses, including Andalusians, Icelandic ponies, Arabians, thoroughbreds and warmbloods. The horses will perform in historic and traditional roles. The Mexican sidesaddle “Charros” will repeat its performance from last year. Katie Hoefs will ride a Grand Prix Dressage demonstration riding “on the wire” without benefit of bridle, and Michael Lieburg will also ride a Grand Prix test on his warmblood. Nancy Hey and her ponies will perform over jumps, as will Nicole Bloom of the Menlo Circus Club.
A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit a riding program for the East Palo Alto Chapter of the YMCA.
Tickets for the day are $10 adults, $5 children age 6 and up and free for children under 5. Tickets will be available at the gate at 10:30 a.m. Performances will start at 11 a.m. Evening tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $40 and include the catered barbecue dinner and dancing.
