Jean on the Job
Farewell parties are not ceremonial and traditional this season. They are quiet goodbyes without much fanfare.
Silicon Valley is saying goodbye to long-term employees, with a nice package, and a rather hurried and secret ending. A quick lunch, some leave the same day they are asked to leave, some are escorted out, some are thrilled to retire early and at last. Some leave a nice e-mail letter to all, and some of your comrades are just off the payroll and off to new lands. What do you say?
“I will miss you.” (If you will.)
“I enjoyed working with you.” (If you did.)
“Let’s stay in touch.” (If you intend to.)
“I am sorry if this is premature for you.” (The ending.)
“I am feeling speechless.” (If you are.)
“But I care about you.” (If you do.)
“And I wish you well.” (Which nearly everyone deserves.)
