From a field of 85 applicants, The Nova Vista Symphony’s Board of Directors has named Navroj Mehta as permanent music director. His first concert in his new post will open the orchestra’s 36th season Nov. 3 at Foothill College.

As outreach conductor with the San Diego Symphony, Mehta has been hailed as “charming and informative” by the San Diego Union Tribune.

Music director of the Alcala Park Symphony from 1993-96 and director of the VOSA Chamber Music Series in San Diego, he has been acclaimed for his audience rapport and his ability to open doors into the world of classical music.

Mehta will continue his current activities in the San Diego area.

Concert dates for the Nova Vista’s 2001-02 season are Nov. 3, Jan. 19, March 9 and May 11. Program details will be available in August.
