Far from the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley, historic Westwind Barn’s 18th annual fund-raiser will be held in scenic Los Altos Hills on Sept. 8.

The “Hoedown,” know for its entertainment and tasty barbecue, will open with a rousing performance by the barn’s Drill Team strutting to music on horseback. This will be followed by a pole-bending and jumping demonstration by youth members of the Pacific Ridge Pony Club, a display of graceful ballet-like dressage and an exhibition by young disabled 4-H riders.

Dinner at 6:45 p.m. features your choice of barbecued chicken or spare ribs, potato salad, barbecued beans, corn bread and dessert from Armadillo Willy’s restaurant in Los Altos. A no-host bar will offer soda, wine and beer.

After dinner, there will be dancing to live music in the cool night air.

Through the night, the barn will offer a raffle and silent auction of furniture, oil paintings, floral arrrangements, decorator baskets and services such as massages, manicures and hair styling.

Proceeds will benefit the 4-H program for teaching disabled children to ride, as well as Westwind Barn preservation efforts. The 60-year-old Westwind Barn is the property of the Town of Los Altos Hills, leased by the Friends of Westwind Inc., a nonprofit membership organization.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for senior citizens and children. For tickets and information, call Alicia Restivo at 941-6113 or e-mail www.westwindbarn@aol.com.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
