The Chefs Who Care benefit dinner is scheduled for Monday at Michael’s at Shoreline, with two seatings, 5 and 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be an Italian Country Buffet including salad, rosemary chicken, penne pasta, vegetables and tiramisu.

Mars mission topic for T&S series
The Technology and Society Committee’s biweekly Luncheon Speakers Series is scheduled for Aug. 21, at the Golden Wok Restaurant, 895 Villa St., Mountain View. Norm Berube, a member of the Northern California Chapter of the Mars Society, will present a slide show, Mars Direct, a plan for a Mars mission, and the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station, a joint project with NASA for Mars analog research at the Houghton crater on Devon Island in Canada’s high Arctic.

American Legion recognizes youth
Los Altos American Legion Post 558 is scheduled to hold a recognition dinner for Boys and Girls State attendees, and Youth & Environment attendees at 5 p.m., Saturday, 347 First St., Los Altos.
A full meal will be provided free by the post. Come and meet the post members and learn what post-sponsored youth did this summer.

Rec Dept. offers Marine World trip
Members of the Los Altos Recreation Department are offering a summer trip Aug. 15 to Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo. This trip is also open to students entering grades 7-10.
Six Flags Marine World offers an array of wildlife and wild rides, including some of the top coasters in Northern California, such as the new Vertical Velocity or Medusa.
The $50 cost for the trip includes admission to the park, charter bus transportation and supervision. Those wishing to register may do so at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos, by Friday.

History museum’s ice cream social
The Los Altos History Museum is holding “Music & Memories: Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social” on Aug. 18, its third annual hand-turned, hand-churned ice cream social with games, toys, and fun. This event is scheduled 2-4 p.m., with free admission.
