By Inaugural Air Expo at Moffett Field

The inaugural Air Expo is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, at NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View. The exposition will feature aerial performers.

The historic Hangar One is slated to hold the Technology Pavilion, a showcase of new and emerging technologies in aeronautics and information technology.

Entrepreneur courses at YWCA

The YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula’s Women Entrepreneurs Program has planned two September courses for women and men interested in starting their own businesses. “Thinking of Becoming an Entrepreneur?” a three-session course that explores the realities of starting a business, is slated for 6-9 p.m., Thursdays, beginning Sept. 6, at the Mid-Peninsula YWCA. The cost is $49.

“Business Academy: How to Start Your Own Business,” a 10-week course for entrepreneurs ready to formulate or amend their business plans, is scheduled for 6-9 p.m., Thursdays, beginning Sept. 27, at the Mid-Peninsula YWCA. The cost is $150, including the textbook.

Corporate-teacher partnership

An end of summer celebration for the IISME Summer Fellowship Program is scheduled for 4-6 p.m., Thursday, at Compaq Computer Corp., in Cupertino.

Silicon Valley businesses sponsored more than 100 paid summer fellowship positions in industry for teachers. IISME Teacher Fellows from K-14 classrooms around the Bay Area worked side-by-side with scientists, managers and others to complete real projects in over 40 companies, universities and government agencies this summer.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
